{"id":1571,"date":"2023-05-01T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nanosmartlab.cnr.it\/?p=1571"},"modified":"2025-05-26T10:37:17","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T08:37:17","slug":"pulse-com-consortium-presents-final-results-at-spie-optics-opto-electronics-conference-in-prague","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nanosmartlab.cnr.it\/?p=1571","title":{"rendered":"PULSE-COM Consortium Presents Final Results at SPIE Optics + Opto-Electronics Conference in Prague"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On <strong>April 27th<\/strong>, during the <strong>Optics + Opto-Electronics Conference<\/strong> organized by <strong>SPIE \u2013 The International Society for Optics and Photonics<\/strong>, in <strong>Prague<\/strong>, the <strong>entire PULSE-COM consortium<\/strong> came together to showcase the final results of the <strong>European PULSE-COM Project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>project\u2019s final workshop<\/strong> was successfully held within the conference session <strong>\u201cSmart Materials for Opto-Electronic Applications\u201d<\/strong>, co-organized by <strong>ENEA<\/strong> and led by a distinguished team of experts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dr. Ivo Rendina<\/strong> (Director of ISASI-CNR),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dr. Lucia Petti<\/strong> (ISASI-CNR, Project Coordinator),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dr. Giuseppe Nenna<\/strong> (ENEA Researcher, Scientific Lead),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dr. Domenico Sagnelli<\/strong> (ISASI-CNR, Leader of Work Package 1 on PMP\/PZL material development and device design).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop focused on innovative <strong>photo-mobile polymers (PMPs)<\/strong>\u2014new active materials supported by EU-funded research through <strong>PULSE-COM<\/strong>. These cutting-edge materials are capable of generating significant strokes when excited by light, opening the door to a new generation of light-driven actuators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to their <strong>ability to convert light into mechanical movement<\/strong>\u2014with displacements reaching several millimeters\u2014these films can serve as optical transducers in advanced devices. The team characterized the dynamic behavior of these photo-mobile films prior to their integration into more complex systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the project\u2019s final demonstration phase, several <strong>\u201cproof of concept\u201d devices<\/strong> were developed, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>light-controlled optical switch<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>micro-valve actuated by light<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>beam deflector<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>wavelength selector<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And a compact <strong>spectrometer prototype<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These prototypes illustrate the potential for <strong>commercial applications<\/strong> in various fields including optoelectronics, microfluidics, and sensing technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acknowledgements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A heartfelt thanks to our <strong>distinguished keynote speakers<\/strong> who enriched the event with their visionary contributions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prof. Lorenzo Marrucci<\/strong> (University of Naples Federico II, Italy),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prof. Ifor D.
