Today, Bryan Roberto Guilcapi presented at the ISASI Workshop as part of the NanoSMART Lab / ISASI-CNR team.

Presentation Highlights

In his talk, Bryan Guilcapi explored the latest advances from the PRIN 2022 project, as reported by NanoSMART Lab. nanosmartlab.cnr.it He showed how the team is harnessing advanced plasmonic metasurfaces and SERS-based biosensing to tackle the challenge of detecting Shiga toxins (Stx1, Stx2, and cleaved Stx2) in complex biological samples (serum, feces) in a label-freereal-time fashion.

The approach couples:

  • Flexible, low-cost substrates (e.g. gold nanoparticles on Kapton or paper) for field deployment,
  • High-performance electron-beam-lithographed metasurfaces for lab-grade sensitivity,
  • AI / machine learning tools to analyze spectral signatures and distinguish toxin subtypes.

He emphasized the complementary role of both portable and laboratory platforms to enable timely diagnostics with ultra-low detection limits.
