The Special Session SP15 – Plasmonic Nanomaterials for Bio-diagnostics, Environmental Monitoring and Food Safety was successfully held during META 2026 – 16th International Conference on Metamaterials, Photonic Crystals & Plasmonics, which took place in Dublin, Ireland, from July 14–17, 2026.
The session brought together an outstanding international community of researchers and experts working at the forefront of plasmonics, nanophotonics, biosensing, metamaterials, environmental monitoring, food safety, and clinical diagnostics. Throughout the event, participants shared cutting-edge research and explored emerging technologies that are shaping the future of sensing and photonic applications.
A highlight of the session was the keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Giuseppe Strangi, whose presentation inspired engaging scientific discussions and set the tone for a highly interactive program.
The session also featured distinguished invited speakers, including Tom Sistermans, Duncan Sutherland, Alessandro Alabastri, Soraya Caixero, Ferruccio Pisanello, Nadia Djaker, Michal Horák, Aleksandra Szaniawska, Vincenzo Amendola, Aliaksandra Rakovich, Hyeon-Ho Jeong, Pavel Bezrukov, Vijay Kumar Sharma, Antonio De Luca, Alessia Milano, Margherita Bolognesi, Rita Asquini, Andrzej Kudelski, Peter Zijlstra, Kristina Rusimova, Jean-François Masson, Maria Alessandra Cutolo, Massimo Rippa, Amalia D’Avino, Linda Piscopo, Vito Mocella, and Francesco Di Angelis, who presented their latest scientific advances and contributed to dynamic exchanges of ideas across disciplines.
The breadth and quality of the presentations demonstrated the rapid progress of plasmonic nanomaterials and nanophotonic technologies toward practical applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and food safety. The session also highlighted the essential role of interdisciplinary collaboration in accelerating the translation of fundamental research into innovative, real-world solutions.
